Swadeshi Academy, one of the premier educational institutions in North-East India, was established in 1994, Guwahati, Assam. The institution from its conception to actual realization, owes everything to the untiring efforts and foresight of one visionary individual, Professor Nareswar Sharma. Prof. Sharma, the founder Director of the Trust, constituted a rare blend of an ingenious mind and a sympathetic heart.
Professor Nareswar Sharma, the founder of Swadeshi Education Trust, which runs the Swadeshi Academy Junior College (Science & Commerce), the Swadeshi College of Commerce and the Swadeshi Academy (School Section), was born at Hatigarh village of Nagaon District in the year 1940 to the humble parents, Ratneswar Sharma and Champamai Devi. The noted educationist passed away on 8th October, 2007. During this short span of life, Prof Sharma brought out those humane qualities that should dwell in men. Prof Sharma did not stop after lying down the foundation of the Swadeshi Education Trust but toiled inexorably to ensure that the students passing out from his institutions are capable enough to meet the challenges of the competitive world outside.
When one sheds light on the educational qualities of Prof. Nareswar Sharma, the glimpses of a bright and enthusiastic student come to light. He passed his matriculation examinations in 1959 from Govt. High School, Nagaon. He completed his masters in commerce in the year 1965 from Gauhati University. Professor Nareswar Sharma began his illustrious career as a teacher in the commerce department of Dawson Higher Secondary School, Nagaon.
Later on, Prof. Sharma also associated himself with Jorhat Engineering College and Assam Engineering College, Jalukbari, Guwahati, as a teacher in Accountancy.
As an educationist, Prof Sharma was methodical in his approach and that perhaps was a clue to his success as a teaching entrepreneur. Feedback from the students, continuous assessment and individual care for each student are some of the salient features of Prof. Sharma's idea of quality education, Prof. Nareswar Sharma contributed a substantial part of his income in charitable works. He provided all possible help to the poor and needy students .He donated extensively to the orphanages, old-age homes, charitable hospitals, shelter homes for the destitute and places of worships of all faiths. Last but not the least, it will not be incorrect, if one calls Prof. Nareswar Sharma that he himself was an institution.
The then Managing Trustee of Swadeshi Education Trust, Prof. Nareswar Sharma took all the initiative in starting Swadeshi Academy Jr. College, providing all help including land ,space ,furniture ,fixture and fitting equipments etc. and with the dedication of teachers and other staff, Swadeshi Academy has advanced into its present status.
The Academy campus is established at an ideal and convenient place, away from the busy G.S Road. There are spacious rooms and provisions for all modern infrastructure required by the students and teachers.
The institute's axial emphasis is on career building and promotion of national integration and social harmony through positive formation of character of the young generation without discriminating against caste, creed, religion and gender .The Swadeshi Academy pledges to train students with heart and soul and tooth and nail to make them disciplined, honest, cooperative, good and useful citizens.
It is our endeavour to minimize the holidays and maximize classes.
To make students successful in life the teachers, students and the guardians must perform their respective duties. All of us must try our best to face the challenges of the times in the state, country and the world at large.
